Game of Thrones Season 8 May Be The End

GOTAll good things must come to an end! With a very large series of books, it was only a matter of time when the hit HBO series Game of Thrones would finally end it’s epic run on television. That predicted ending is expected to be within two years.

Yes, they are currently in the middle of filming the sixth season, but showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have previously stated that their intentions was to keep the show running on television for about seven to eight seasons. Benioff and Weiss are not the only ones who expect the series to end on season eight. HBO President Michael Lombardo has already stated that he anticipates it to do so.

I think seven-seasons-and-out has never been the conversation,” Lombardo had told the press while on tour. “The question is how much beyond the seventh season are we gonna do? Obviously we’re shooting [Season 6] now, hopefully discussing seven. I think they’re feeling like there are probably two more years after six. As I’ve said before, I would love for them to change their minds, but I think that’s over-looking right now.”

Whether you have or have not read Game of Thrones there is no denying that it has been a very successful pop culture phenomenon. It has brought a lot of positive attention to several actors and actresses that were previously unknown to your average television viewers. Not only that but “Khaleesi” has become a very popular baby name over the past few years which is a pretty interesting trend. However, nothing is fully set in stone as to whether one of the most beloved television shows will finally meet it’s end. The only thing that is presently known at this time is that HBO renewed the series for both seasons five and six after four premiered, so seven is still very likely, but not guaranteed at all.

Thankfully, there may still be hope as Lombardo has already once mentioned that there is possible work to be done towards a prequel series but is currently focused on the more pressing matter as to when this show will end. “I would be open to anything that Dan and David wanted to do, about Game of Thrones or almost any subject matter. Really it would depend fully for us on what they wanted to do. I believe you’re right, there’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel … at this point all the focus is figuring out the next few years with this show.”

Geeks, what direction do you anticipate this series to head in? Do you think Martin will even finish a proper ending in time for a more proper canonical ending in the timeline? I am not a fan of the show and I have not really watched it but for your sake I hope it stays because great television seems to be a rarity in these modern times.
