Suicide Squad Runtime Revealed

The spotlight is now being pointed at Suicide Squad, David Ayer’s hugely anticipated DC adaptation following the widely controversial Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film is the third installment into the DC Extended Universe and the official run-time has been revealed!

Jared Leto’s performance as The Joker is going to be heavily scrutinized as he goes up against the legacy of his predecessors in the role like Jack Nicholson and the late Heath Ledger, the latter of which would become the most iconic of performances in comic book movies. There is also the looming shadow of the Batman played by Ben Affleck that he also has to contend with and as the ongoing war as to which comic book franchise is better-DC or Marvel- will most certainly progress as new discussion arises about whether this film is good or bad. Much to our dismay. And for Ayer, it is the ultimate test for both his creative abilities and his ability handle a film in a massive franchise.

It’s a huge deal even before you get into what exactly the film is about. Part of the predictable back-and-forth arguments between what is the best comic book movie and how Suicide Squad is going to fit into the ranks entirely depends upon the writing, the pacing, and how everything is put together and moves in connection.

We learned this as director David Ayer confirmed on Twitter that the film is done a few days ago, and that post production is completely finished. With the 2 hour and 10 minute runtime, that would make it a mid-range entry into the DC legacy as far as post-Batman & Robin goes. To provide you with a bit of context, the poorly received Green Lantern film clocked in at 114 minutes which felt a lot longer due to how poor it was. Batman Begins  was another short DC film that was a somewhat basic 140 minutes and felt sharply paced as if someone with extreme OCD had been in the editing room.

The most recent entries in the DC Extended Universe- Man of Steel and Batman v Superman – have generally stayed within the 150 minutes range and in both instances, there were certain scenes that could have been cut to make the narrative feel more streamlined and tighten up the flow and imagery.
